I was watching America's Next Top Model today and started thinking about something that's been an issue for a while. There were two contestants side by side, they were twins. And one had all the passion and desire to become America's Next Top Model, whereas the other one had the natural talent, even moreso then her sister, but no desire. This is somewhat the situation i'm experiencing right now. I know what i love, what i have passion in, but it's not the most stable alternative. The profession i've chosen has the rationality and respect that all asian parents dream their kids of having. You think, go with your passion, but it's not that simple. All throughout my university career, it's been an issue of what to do... as soon as things get hard, i'll quit, and with this, somewhat fail. However, this time, it's not a question of whether i can do it or not, it's whether i will have the desire to do it. But i'm scared, that it's b/c when the going gets tough, this is when i'll want to quit and consider something else. So here's the deal, should it be stick with it and see where it goes for two more years?? Or switch now and risk failing again when the going gets tough...

Ooo...a beta blog.
Nice work, Vania. I bet Layial is as irate as ever when someone else gets a blog.
Congrats on getting LCP.
Here is my advice Vania, and it is not by any means to be taken as an expert opinion.
I know the feeling of pressure to do what is expected of you. It isn't put on us just by our parents but society as a whole where there is a mold of how you're life should play out, you know the basic stages. I've realized however that trying to plan where you want to be in 5 or 10 years is difficult at best becuase so many things change everyday. Alex made me realize that things just work themselves out as they are supposed to instead of trying so hard to work them out ourselves.
So I say, go with your passion because the stable alternative will not provide you with the same sense of self gratification and inspiration.
I second Blanka's motion.
Live life in the present...you'll have way more fun that way.
Nobody says you can't do both. University does not need to be an A to B process...in fact this is the time of your life to try new things, experiment, explore that passion.
I know so many people in the business world who have a career in nothing related to their degree. For example I know a very successful woman who is senior business leader. Her degree? Accounting? Marketing? Finance? Nope. Phys Ed. I had a manager who is an extremely succesful financial planner. He has a PhD in Egyptian Hieroglyphics!
Just think abour it. what's the worst that can happen? You explore your passion and find out it's not what you thought it was. That's actually a good thing. You find out something about yourself/your limitations, are a better, stronger person for it. You can then go back to the "rational" with no regrets...and may discover the rational is your new passion.
firstly....YOU HAVE A BLOG????
Secondly...yes Kent you are correct i AM irate...but what can you do...apparently the new thing is facebooking???who knew
thirdly...vania whatever you choose to do as long as its done well, will turn out great...
Facebooking sucks. Harshitha already tried to convert me and I said "aw, hells no."
Update your blog so that I can legitimately be called a blog creeper!
Anyhow, interesting question that you ask. I suppose it all goes back to each individual's core values. For example, if you value rationality, go for it and ignore those questioning you! Besides, you are probably a very accountant. You not being a accountant would be such a waste!
Update your blog!
