In the Territories.

I realized that i haven't blogged in here for quite a while but I figure if there's nothing really happening except for going to school, it's just lame to rant about it. I had a pretty amazing weekend doing some touristy things and finally getting the chance to explore HK.
On Saturday, I went up to the highest point in HK which is Victoria Peak. You can see the entire city and it was so nice b/c i was able to wear jeans for the first time! We went to this restaurant called "Bubba Gump" which was all themed Forrest Gump!! Whoever thought of such an ingenious idea should be given a prize. It was peaceful at the top... but it didn't really give me that feeling of solitude that I thought I would have b/c it's so touristy. I had a lot of fun afterwards walking around Lam Kwai Fong (the party district) and Soho which is infamous for its 100+ shops. Walking around I was so mad at myself for not exploring more... I only really have 2 months left! We're planning on trying a new restaurant each week.
Sunday was really really amazing. My uncle drove me around the New Territories and we did some really low key traditional things. The reason why a lot of people don't go to these places is because for the most part you need a car to get around. I guess this is one of the issues with not having a car. I always wondered why you would get in car in HK since it's so convenient with the MTR... but there's no way you could get to these places without a car and what a waste to not experience it. We first went to this tourist site which is right between the 2 huge suspension bridges in HK. The 2nd destination was one of my favorites where we went to try AUTHENTIC dim sum. What does authentic mean? It means that it's made from scratch... and it was DELICIOUSSSS. The veggies were actually grown and picked from the ground. After, we went to see the place where they grew all the vegetables - one of the few left in the area of HK. They were growing something like watercress which needed to be immersed in water. I thought it was so genious that they built the farm right next to a creek that supplied fresh water. Therefore, no irrigation system was needed and it flowed all the way down the entire crop. It's amazing what can be done with so little. Our next stop was this place called Tai Po which was so far north that you could see Shenzhen on the other side of the water. It was a reservoir where most of HK's drinking water is from. It was so nice coming here for the weekend. I'd almost forgotten nature and peacefulness out of the city. It reminded me so much of Vancouver and Canada... how I miss the Rocky Mountains. But it proves that there's more to HK than just the food and shopping. I hope there'll be more trips like that in the future. For those in Calgary - savor the fresh air and view!

Aw, I just typed something up but my internet crapped out. One more time...

If you ever go back to Lan Kwai Fong, check out the Irish pub on Sunday nights. They have towers of Carlsberg for cheap cheap, and its good fun around there. Less crowds to deal with that night as well...

Mosey on over to Tai O - a fishing village that hasn't changed in decades. There's a lot of neat buildings to look at because they're so old, but not much else other than that. The view is nice. :)

Umm, oh, and if you want to do some more shopping, check out the Elements mall under the Arch apartments. Its relatively new, and there's a skating rink in it. There's a stop right to the mall using the MTR (sorry, the name escapes me), and there's a really good wonton restaurant in there beside the grocery store. Mmmmhmm...

Ok now, GO! DO IT!
