And so, the exploring begins!

So digital slap should be in the works soon considering the ridiculously little amount of blogging I have done over the past few days. I've been so busy getting ready for school, shopping (you know how important that is) and just going out to see the city.
I think i have my course stuff sorted out now. The system here is very different from how we do things at home. As much as we bitch and complain about peoplesoft, i'm very grateful that the faculties WORK TOGETHER to get things done efficiently. Over here, things are done really differently. Firstly, there is a 2 week "course shopping" period where you get to check out courses for 2 weeks. We have those in Canada, but usually course shopping is not recommended. It's good though b/c then you have time to think about the course instead of dropping it halfway through the term. In addition, the university is inter-linked in every which way. I don't think it's possible to walk on the street through buildings. After you find the short cuts it's ok, but if you don't know them... good luck. I had a few friends miss their classes b/c they were so lost. Also, in order for a course to be finalized, it must be approved by the offering faculty and the offering department. So it's a long process... and takes about 2 weeks. I'm glad we don't have all this red tape at u of c. Also, after going to class for the first time this week, it seems like classes are soo brutally hard over here... i don't get it! There are group presentations, assignments, tests, additional readings.. i can see why HK locals don't have time to do anything else but study! Even my soci class is so hard compared to options back home. O well, it's the learning experience that counts... blat.
A few stories for you since the last time. Firstly, we went to get a massage on friday... at 1:00pm in the morning! Can't say I've done that before. It was pretty... painful. I think it was muscle reflexology or something along those lines, so they dig DEEP but i was left with some bruises the morning after. One of my friends had an interesting massage... there was some buttock crack action. And according to where i come from, that's not normal... hmmm?? haha... HILARIOUS.
Also, yesterday, we went to an Indian restaurant at Tsim Tsa Tsui and it was sooo good. Although it took some crazy adventure to get there. So we were walking down what seemed like the Indian district of HK, and one of the guys from the UK was literally chased down the street by this indian guy trying to get him to go to his restaurant. We were hungry, so we finally chose a restaurant. However, they led us into a really really sketchy building that was a back staircase... and more back staircases... so we got freaked out and left. And then we ended going to this other sketchy place, but the proximity to the street was closer, but still sketchy. However, the food was SOO GOOD and it was really cheap. Full course dinner, authentic Indian food... $11 CDN. Needless to say i'm not dead yet, and no stomach pains... so all in all it was a good night.
I'm hoping to try a new place at least once a week (although i think that's what we're doing tonight)... if it's anything like that Indian place, I am down.
