This post is long overdue. Considering I still haven't posted for Shanghai... but I just want to blab a few words about my first visit to Beijing. After having some good luck with the Chinese visa (i.e. got the visa at 9:15am and had a flight at 12:45pm), we were on our way to Beijing. We arrived in the beautiful Beijing airport and after all the new constructions from the Olympics, Beijing is a very pretty city. I remember seeing the sunset driving into the main city which was very fantastic. I think the highlight for today was driving by Tiananmen Square and seeing Mao Zhedong's picture. It's crazy how much happened in this city over the past decade and how much it will change in the near future. We're off to actually see the major sites tomorrow so it's an early day. The day after we will be heading to the Great Wall. The one thing that will need some time to get accustomed to is the weather. Beijing is frickin COLD!!! It's not that cold like -28 degrees, it's only max -8 degrees but it's very windy and that cuts like a knife. Or else it's maybe b/c i've been so used to HK weather where you can still walk around in sandals that this comes as a huge shock. I'm wearing as much clothes as i would in Calgary!!! More to come with more pictures soon..
