Sadness, Joy or Peace?

Earlier today, I was watching the Hour and one of my favorite female singers of all time, Alanis Morissette was one of the guests. From the first introduction and appearance you could see that she was one of those incredibly peaceful and Zen-like individuals. It was amazing that for someone that has the 10th top selling album of all time, her conversation seemed humble and true. From someone listening to this artist since her first CD, you can see her transition into the artist she is today from the experiences she's gained through the years. Jagged Little Pill focused on how she felt at the time and issues which mattered most to her. In her newer album, Flavors of Entanglement, you can see how she becomes an open book for others to translate on their own and relate to her experiences. One of the questions that struck me was when she was asked how her emotions followed her extensive time as a recording artist. She mentioned that emotions which gave you the highs of highs (happiness) and the lows of lows (sadness) were only in a temporary state. So, the key is to find a sense of peace because that is what follows you, and that is what keeps you striving to be the person you want to be.
