After 12 hrs and 45 mins(ish), 3 airplane food meals, 150 pages in "3 Cups of Tea", and 3 not so good movies, countless free beverages, in and outs of sleep, and lots of restlessness, i finally arrived at the HK airport. My uncle, aunt and cousin were there to pick me up (gawd you gotta love family). We drove around and around HK island trying to find HKU... my cousin knew how to walk it, but didn't exactly know how to drive there... *sigh*. It was kinda funny seeing how frustrated my uncle was getting, but he has a LOT of patience. Anyways we finally found Starr Hall and I checked in. So it was nice and air conditioned and then I got up to my room and it was pretty stuffy in there. We thought, ok the AC doesn't work and there are a few drawers that are banged up, no big deal. We ran into a local student in the hall and turns out, you have to get a card from the Starr Hall office to load up AC money on it. Asian... yes i believe so... practical, ok fine i can understand where they're coming from. But i won't be blasting the AC very much the next few months here. I'll probably be mooching as much AC from the library or campus as I can. The student in me demands it.
Then we decided to go back to my uncle's place in Kowloon for me to stay the night (thank goodness). I had my first cheap noodles of my trip (many more to come i'm sure)... i'm a bit worried that i don't know how to read chinese. I figure i'll just order Won Ton Soup whenever I can... it's feasible right? I'm excited to go eat some sushi though... my stomach needs a break from the grease. O and I found my first hair in soup... it was also in my cousin's. 2/4 chance, what are the odds. Apparently large when you are in HK. Although, my uncle was telling me that he once found a cockroach and just kept on eating. I can be a trooper and suck down some hairy soup... O HK health board (if that even exists).
Anyways, I'll get more misc admin stuff done today. I think if i didn't have so much to do, I would be pretty culture shocked. I somewhat can't believe that I'm finally here... I was looking at the city when my uncle was driving around and it's so strange to be here. I feel like i'm on vacation... welps more to come and there'll be pictures. As a fob would say: "bye bye!"

Wow, Vania...I had no idea you were going to HK.
Your descriptions remind me of when I first arrived in Beijing. It was nothing short of surreal.
Good luck!
Char Siu Bao!
Man, those are my favorite. To my dismay, when I arrived in China, I found that they are a Hong Kong specialty, and it was very scarce anywhere else.
Eat some for me!
Have fun!
